FAQ's

Why is fiber better than copper?

The fiber optic signal is made of light which is much more efficient than the standard copper connection, allowing for higher data rates over a greater distances. The end result is the experience of faster internet. Fiber optics ensures you’re getting reliably fast Internet (up to 1 gigabit!), even during peak times. Fiber allows you to enjoy considerably faster upload speeds than a traditional copper connection can provide. In addition, bad weather doesn’t affect fiber because the core is glass making it immune to interference.

There are flags and people in my yard, what are they doing?

The flags or marking in your area were placed by the local utilities companies and help our team identify where the lines are underground. When AcenTek begins fiber construction, we use these markings to protect against damage to your property or utilities. Please see the list below for an explanation of utility color associations.

How deep will you have to dig to bury the fiber line?

The main line in the easements and right of ways are buried between two and four feet deep and the fiber drop to the house or to the pedestal may vary between 12 to 18 inches in depth.

Will my property be disturbed?

We will treat your property as if it were our own. We will promptly restore your yard to a condition as close to original as possible. A service drop (fiber optic cable line) will be run between your street and your house/business to a fiber transition box that will be mounted on the outside of your home/business, generally near your present electric meter. After reviewing your property, we determine the least invasive way to run that cable.

If you are unsatisfied with the way we treat your property, we welcome you to contact us immediately so that we can make it right with you.

When you do a fiber build to an area, does every home in that area need to upgraded, even if they are not an AcenTek customer?

Yes. Each fiber build is a project to replace the connections from homes and businesses to our network. The old copper connection will be retired and fiber will replace it.

If you are not an AcenTek customer, we still urge you to allow us to update the connection to your home. This is free to you and will increase the value of your home, should you choose to sell in the future. By allowing AcenTek to upgrade the connection to your home to fiber, you are under no obligation to subscribe to our services.
